Holiday Get-together

On December 29 most of the extension staff of BVBID, gathered at the home of David and Rhonda Hamrick for food, fun and fellowship. Counting spouses and children there were twenty in attendance and it was a great time of fellowship and comraderie, and for us new members of the staff, a great time to become acquainted. We sang and prayed until almost 10:00 p.m.

The next morning we reassembled for a staff meeting to discuss the various works we are involved in around the world. The elders of the Bear Valley church of Christ have approved new schools to begin in 2009 in the following places: Danlí, Honduras; Takoradi, Ghana; Chandigarh, India; and Visakhaputnam, India. One other school is awaiting official confirmation. There is a great deal of work to do this coming year.

As our last post pointed out, the new school in Danlí, Honduras is on hold until we are able to recruit more students. It is our prayer that we will be able to begin classes before too long. We will keep you updated on that situation. In the meantime, I will be traveling to Chimala, Tanzania in August to teach for two weeks, beginning late August 2009. I will update this blog as other travel plans are confirmed.

God bless,

Donnie Bates

Classes Postponed

This is an update on the new school in Danlí, Honduras. As we had advertised, our plan was to begin classes on Monday, January 5, 2009. However, to date, we have not been able to recruit the minimum number of students to begin classes. Our new director, Nery Irias has told me that another visit to surrounding congregations for the purpose of recruiting is planned in the near future and he will give me a report by the end of this month.

It is important that we have a minimum number of students in class in order to be good stewards of the money so many of you have graciously and faithfully offered for the purpose of training men to preach the Gospel. Therefore, we are postponing the opening of classes until we can recruit more students. Rather than setting a new date at this point, we will, for the time being, leave this an open-ended postponement. After we get the report on the next recruitment tour, perhaps we can set another target date for the beginning of classes.

Please keep this effort in your prayers, specifically that our brethren and local staff will be able to successfully find men who will fill our classes.

Thank you for your prayers and God bless,

Donnie Bates
